Drawing Meme

Journal Entry: Fri Aug 28, 2009, 11:30 AM
I have a backup of photos I have yet to finish editing, but with school started and a new job, it's been hard to get to it. And I've been lazy. And I just bought Batman: Arkham Asylum. So ph4!1 for me.

In the meantime, here's a short meme for you to read! (Stole from :iconbilious:

◆Your name?
Skru

◆If possible, your age?
23

◆When did you start drawing?
When I discovered how pencils/pens/crayons work.

◆Which hand do you use for drawing?
Right.

◆Which is easier to draw - male or female?
Female.

◆Which is easier to draw - long hair or short hair?
Not really much of a difference. I prefer long hair, though, because you can have a lot more fun with it.

◆Is it easier to draw the head facing towards the right or the left?
Never thought about it. I have no idea....

◆Is it easier to draw the side view of the face or the front view?
Front view is easier because you can use the natural symmetry of the face to make sure everything is proportioned properly.

◆What do you have problems in drawing?
Proportions. I have a hard time keeping things looking like they fit together properly--need to PRACTICE >_<

◆What do you like to draw?
Everything. Except cityscapes and other things that require tons and tons of detail.

◆Are you a traditional artist or a digital artist?
Mostly traditional, though I'm trying to learn to work with digital media.

◆Where do you start drawing from?
Reference. Look up images of the pose or figure you want to draw, then start from a stick model and build up from there. Gesture drawing works well, too, to get a general sense of the pose you want.

◆What is your drawing habit that you are aware of?
Um, probably that I sit in weird positions when I draw. I'm most comfortable when I look the most contorted.

◆Any tips for coloring/shading?
For coloring, start with the middle color before you do shadows or highlights. Also, keep in mind or make a reference where the light source is coming from and how objects affect the highlights and shadows of the things surrounding them.

◆How long does it take to finish a piece of art?
Me? Finish?

◆What music do you listen to while you draw?
Anything and everything, but usually grunge or metal. Changes depending on my mood, though.

◆How long does it take you to come up with an idea?
Ideas come pretty quickly to me usually, but if the execution gives me trouble then I start to lose what I intended to do and concentrate on what's giving me a hard time.

◆Your favorite drawing utensils?
My mechanical g-pencil and clickable eraser for traditional media, and ctrl+Z or cmd+Z on the computer.

◆Your favorite color/the color that you use a lot?
Bluuuuuuuuuuuuuuue.

◆Your favorite style(s)?
I like cartoony styles in other people's work, but mine's sort of a cross between realistic and manga style--in other words, I don't have a style.

◆What kind of artist are you aiming for?
Right now I'm just aiming to be a good one.

  • Mood: Artistic
  • Listening to: Incubus - Dig
  • Reading: Elizabeth Kostova - The Historian
  • Watching: The West Wing
  • Playing: Batman: Arkham Asylum
  • Eating: Ramen!
  • Drinking: Water

Now that my Digital Photography class is over, should I offer the photos up for prints?
